This Edirol R-4 is in pretty good shape all in all. There are of course a few minor scratches here and there, but that is only cosmetic and not unheard of for a recorder a few years old.
But it works as it should with all functions. You can see in the pictures that I kept recording while working the camera.

The one thing that is not working is the power jack to use the original external power supply. I don't know why this is,I think a supply I once used was wired wrong. However, the battery compartment still works as it should. Since the R-4 is quite power hungry, you'd need to change batteries quite often, so when I was out recording with it, I attached my Hawk-Woods DVSQN4S to it via a short power cable with bare ends. I attached it as you can see in the pictures. For added safety you can close the battery compartment with its original lid (which I still have, just not pictured) and drill a small hole for the power cable to exit.
This is really a good way to power this recorder when on the road anyway, otherwise you'd be changing batteries on an two-hourly basis or so.
